What Hyannis does to a window
The Nantucket Sound side of Barnstable is the saltiest glass in the mid-Cape. Hyannis Port, Ocean Street, Wianno, Seapuit, Oyster Harbors, Craigville Beach and the homes on Cotuit Bay and West Bay take a damp salt haze on every south wind that dries to a gray film on the water side of the house, and a nor'easter carries it a mile inland across the ponds and leaves a hard white line that rain does not rinse off. The ferry and boat traffic in Hyannis Harbor and at the Osterville bridges adds an exhaust film to anything facing the water, and summer fog keeps the film wet for days.
Inland it is the pines and the road. Centerville, Cotuit Highlands, Marstons Mills and the lots off Old Stage Road and Bumps River Road sit under pitch pines and scrub oaks that drop yellow pollen from late April into June and needles and sap for the rest of the year, and the shaded side of a house stays damp through the humid months. Route 28, Route 132 and Main Street in Osterville get salted and brined from December through March, and plow spray leaves a de-icing haze on the front glass of homes near them.
Sound-front and bay-front homes in Hyannis Port, Wianno, Seapuit, Oyster Harbors and on Cotuit Bay do best every two months, and many summer houses go monthly from June through September. Homes inland in Centerville, Cotuit and Hyannis do well quarterly, with the inside glass done once a year either way. We time a spring visit to the week before the house opens for the season.

Can you remove hard water spots from sprinklers?
